Classic Hair Bands: Winger – Headed for a Heartbreak

While I wasn’t initially a fan of Winger, I liked the band, and it was their the power ballad “Headed for a Heartbreak” that made me a fan. I love everything about this song, but it’s the guitar solo by Reb Beach near the end that amazed me the most. To this day, I often rewind the solo at the end of “Headed for a Heartbreak” on my Zune whenever this tune plays.

Classic Hair Bands: Alice in Chains – Man in the Box

I remember first seeing Alice in Chains’ video for “Man in the Box” on Headbanger’s Ball. I must admit that halfway through the video, I changed the channel. I didn’t like the song or the band’s sound and felt they didn’t belong on the show; I was right about that but I digress.

I felt that Alice in Chains was a very different kind of group, and at the time, I liked specific kinds of rock music. Alice in Chains just didn’t fit into what I liked during that time, which is okay. I always have the right to change my mind and expand my horizons musically, which I did years later. I heard “Man in the Box” on a classic rock radio station, listening to the song entirely for the first time and with an open mind. I realized what I missed by not giving the band a chance because “Man in the Box” is truly amazing with the haunting voice of deceased lead singer Layne Staley and the complimenting vocals and guitar work from Jerry Cantrell.

Yes, I realize that technically, Alice in Chains is not a hair band in the “classic” sense of the word. They were a far cry from bands like Poison, Whitesnake, and Motley Crue. Still, since this is my blog, I’m going to classify them in this category.

UTF Site Update: 01.20.08

I have made a decision to shut the UTF message board down. The daily spam fights have just grown too overwhelming and has involved too much of my time over the past year. I’m one person against an army of spam robots. Maintaining the message board has become more work than I’m willing to put in, so at the end of January, the message board will go away.

As most of you are aware, you can contact Timmy directly at his web site. I will be directing any communications I have with you here at Reverb. If any of you have made friends here and want to keep in touch with them, I urge you to send that person a private message through the message board while you still can. I would not recommend putting your private email address in the forums as you don’t really know if everyone on the Memberlist is a real person. Thanks.

Tom Cruise: Crazy Scientologist

If you have not seen the Tom Cruise Scientology video, then you have to check it out before the “Church” snatches it back down.

I have seen the video a couple of times, trying to figure out what he’s saying, and I still don’t have a clue what he’s talking about. All I know is that he comes off sounding crazy and appears a bit off, especially when he’s laughing like a maniacal mad man in this video.

This Kid’s Gonna Be a Star!

YouTube Video Link:

This kid’s name is Brendan. He’s two years old, and amazingly, he’s singing some of the lyrics to Jennifer Hudson’s rendition of “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” which was the song that made Jennifer Holiday’s music career. I’m laying bets that this cute little kid will grow up to become a singer. What do you think?
