Wendy & Lisa Presents White Flags of Winter Chimneys

Similar to my love of Timmy as a performer and musician, I have that same love for Wendy and Lisa, former Revolution members of Prince’s iconic band. They’re back with their first album in a decade, White Flags of Winter Chimneys, which they are releasing totally independently through their website. As an owner of the new album, I highly recommend it. Ever since I bought it, I’ve been regularly listening to it on my iPod and in iTunes. It’s definitely one my favorite albums of 2008, if not the best.

Don’t dismiss Wendy and Lisa as former 80s icons who aren’t musicians in their own right. They have scored various films (Hav Plenty, Something New) and TV shows (Heroes, Crossing Jordan). They also have released several solo LPs in the post-Revolution breakup.

If you ever were fans of the duo and liked them as Revolution members, please check out the following:

80s Throwback: The Jacksons - Can You Feel It

The song “Can You Feel It” by The Jacksons is one of my favorite songs by the group, if not my favorite. Whenever I hear this song, it makes me groove and gets me pumped, no mater what kind of day I’m having.

80s Throwback: Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer

I decided to pick an artist that Timmy played with in the past for today’s 80s throwback. I was a little slow in discovering Peter Gabriel, and I had never heard of him until I saw his (still) classic video for the song, “Sledgehammer” on MTV. Once I did, I became an instant fan of his music.

Conceptually, the “Sledgehammer” video would have never been made if it followed today’s (boring) standards for music videos; however, this video, like many in the 80s, is a true example of art and creativity. Arguably, it is the best video ever made…even better than “Thriller” by Michael Jackson, in my opinion.

80s Throwback: Katrina & the Waves - Walking on Sunshine

Whenever I hear “Walking on Sunshine” by the Katrina & the Waves, it makes me smile and brings back some good memories. For some reason, I also think of the scene in “Look Who’s Talking” when John Travolta is playing with the baby.

80s Throwback: Billy Idol - Rebel Yell

“Rebel Yell” by Billy Idol always gets me pumped whenever this song rotates on my Zune’s playlist. I remember first hearing this song when I was a little kid in the mall chase scene in the 80s classic , “The Legend of Billie Jean.”

This video has a lot of energy that you don’t see in music videos today. Plus it has Steve Stevens, one of the guitar greats from an era that sadly no longer exists with today’s music.
